What's Happening @TBR - Week of October 30, 2023
Dear Thomas B. Riley Families,
We have an exciting week ahead with many activities for students. Please review the following information carefully to ensure you are fully aware of the expectations listed below.
HUGE Congratulations to Senior Boys Soccer Team – Divisional CHAMPIONS!
A big shout out to our Boys Soccer Team who took home the trophy for the Divisional Championship Finals. This is a huge win for Thomas B. Riley School and we are so happy to share with them in this celebration. We will be holding a parade of Champions on Monday directly following announcements for the team to come down to the office, and do a lap around the school while being cheered on by their peers. Students on the team will also have a chance to take pictures with the trophy during this time.
Halloween/Casual Day on Tuesday
If your child would like to wear a costume to school on Tuesday, they are welcome to as long as they are not wearing face masks. This is so that school staff are able to identify all faces in our school for the security and safety of everyone. Costumes must also be school appropriate, and in line with our school dress code.
For all students in TLC, this will be a casual day at school. If students choose not to wear a costume, they are welcome to wear regular clothes on this day.
School learning activities will resume as normal during instructional hours on Tuesday. Optional Halloween related activities will be held at lunch if students wish to participate.
Basketball Games this Season
As communicated in our message to parents last week, all students who intend to be spectators at any basketball games this season at any school in our division, must be accompanied by their personal parent/guardian. Adults are not permitted to supervise other students if the student is not their personal child. This is a divisional rule in response to previous events that have impacted the safety and security of our schools. Students will be turned away at the door if they are not accompanied by a parent. We appreciate your attention to this.
In addition, it is important to note that there is no supervision provided for students between the 2:30pm end of day bell and the 4:30pm games. Students are not permitted to stay at the school and must make alternate arrangements for the time between games with their individual families knowing that the school is not open at this time.
Lunch Expectations and Winter Conditions
The school has an open campus policy for lunch, which means that students are welcome to leave the school campus over the lunch hour. However, for the safety and security of all students and staff, students are not permitted to re-enter the school until the final lunch bell if they choose to leave campus over lunch. This is so all of our entrances and exits remain secure and to ensure we have adequate supervision for those students who choose to stay at school.
Students are reminded to dress for the weather if they choose to go outside for lunch.
Volunteer Clearance Reminder
If you have recently received a police clearance after applying for volunteer status at our school, please email the school at thomasbriley@cbe.ab.ca with the clearance letter you received attached. The clearance letter must be downloaded from your account and sent to the school within 60 days or you may have to restart the process. Once we receive your letter, then we are able to complete the final steps to verify your clearance.
Apple Pick Up – Pick up on Thursday Nov 2!
For any parents who ordered apples for our apple fundraiser, apple pick up is at the school on Thursday November 2 from 2pm-5pm. Please come to the front of the school to pick up your order. Note that the school is not responsible for lost or damaged orders that are not picked up at this time. If you are unable to make this pickup window please have a friend or family member pick up in your place.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Austin
