Dear Thomas B. Riley Families

Welcome to Ms. Platts!

We would like to welcome Ms. Platts to Thomas B. Riley School. Mrs. Platts will be taking over for Mrs. Cook while she is on medical leave. Mrs. Cook’s expected return date is December 5, 2023. Mrs. Platts comes to us with a wealth of experience in the arts and a passionate interest in fostering creativity and building positive relationships with our students. We know she will be a welcome addition to our school.

No School Friday

Staff at Thomas B. Riley have a professional learning day on Friday. There is no school for students.

Lockdown

Students overall were successful regarding our first lockdown practice last week. They were reminded by the attending officers that these practices are to be taken with the utmost serious tone. Students were reminded that if they are making any noise at all in a real event, that they are jeopardizing the safety of their fellow classmates and school staff. We appreciate any follow up you have with your child at home regarding this same message.

Lates

We have seen an increase in the number of students who are returning to class significantly after the lunch bell. We ask that parents please partner with us in logging into Powerschool and regularly checking your child’s absences. Homeroom teachers and office staff will follow up if these patterns continue. There is a significant amount of class time missed which will impact their overall achievement and learning.

Water Bottles

The school is having a significant challenge with water bottle fights both inside and outside of the school yard. This is a significant safety hazard in the school for slips, trips, and falls. Outside of the school it has resulted in wet and uncomfortable students both for those who are involved and those in the direct vicinity. We are asking students to please use their water bottles only for drinking water. If this continues, water bottles will need to stay in lockers rather than being brought to class.
