Student Count – Next Year

If your child will not be attending Thomas B Riley School next year in Grade 8 or 9, please email the office at thomasbriley@cbe.ab.ca as soon as possible. We will need to designate each student to the appropriate school in the Spring. In addition, an accurate projection of student numbers allows us to plan for the correct number of staff and has significant impact on school resources. We appreciate your cooperation in letting us know in advance.

School Spirit Day – Thursday

This Thursday is an optional Spirit Day for all students. TLC students are asked to either participate in spirit day or wear their TLC uniform. It is not a casual day.

This Thursday’s theme is: Students dress as teachers and teachers dress as Junior High Students.

We will also have a fun scavenger hunt for students to participate in over the lunch hour on this day. They won’t want to miss it!

School Council Meeting – Wednesday

School council will be meeting at the school in the Learning Commons this Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 6pm. A representative from the after school program, LEAD, will also be in attendance if you would like to learn more about this program.

We look forward to hearing from you and sharing some exciting upcoming opportunities for students.

Skiing/Snowboarding Forms

All students have the opportunity to attend a very exciting field trip to Canada Olympic Park on various dates. It is important their forms are returned to the school as soon as possible so that COP staff are able to begin putting them into ability groups.

Cost should never be a barrier for any field trip the school offers. If financial assistance is needed in order for your child to attend, please contact Mrs. Austin directly at taaustin@cbe.ab.ca as soon as possible.

Fees for this field trip are uploaded to your Powerschool account.

Options in Powerschool Accounts

Options for Term 2 are viewable in your child’s Powerschool account, however they are not fully finalized. There may be some errors, particularly if your child has missing blocks or if they have any of the same options they had in Term 1. The office is still working through reviewing these so please be patient with this process. We will have finalized options available by January 30, 2024 for the start of Term 2 which is January 31, 2024.

Term 2 Start

Term 2 begins Wednesday January 31, 2024. The Wednesday and Thursday of this week will be running as regular Monday/Tuesday schedule instead of the reversed schedule. Because it is the beginning of the term we will start with Block 1 on the Wednesday and Thursday. New schedules will be provided to students by the end of the day on Tuesday.

TLC Registration

Our TLC program is now open for registration. If you would like to register for TLC next year, please complete an expression of interest form through School Engage no later than February 12, 2024. Our school is not going through a lottery system this year, however early registration will secure your registration. It is possible that enrollment in certain grades will be capped later in the Spring/Fall.
