Dear Thomas B. Riley Families,

What a great beginning to a brand new school year. The students arrived ready to learn and excited to see their classmates after the summer break.

One change we have implemented this year is that we have students in all programs attending options classes together. Each options class has a mix of grades and programs in order for all of our students to have an opportunity to build community at TBR. Though we have four programs within our school (ALP, PLP, TLC, and Regular Program) we are one school community and it is important we continue to build connections across our school.

Cell Phone Reminder

As mentioned in our Student Handbook, our cell phone policy is “Away for the Day” which means that all cell phones brought to school are required to reside in the student’s locker during instructional hours. Students are permitted to use cell phones at lunch and after school except for in school bathrooms and change rooms. We appreciate your support with this policy to ensure students are able to focus on their learning during class time without distraction. Please refrain from texting or call your child on their cell phone during the school day.

School Photo Day – Thursday September 7, 2023

All students will have their photo taken on Thursday through Lifetouch. A paper message was sent home last week. We require one parent volunteer to support with this day. If you are available and have a current security clearance please contact the main office via email at thomasbriley@cbe.ab.ca.

Breakfast Club

A reminder that snacks and small nutritious breakfast items are available for all students in the cafeteria starting at 7:40am. All students are welcome. If parents/guardians would prefer for their child not to access this free resource please let your homeroom teacher know and communicate this directly with your child as it is their responsibility to make choices around their access to all food offered at school.

Save the date – Conferences Open House

Thomas B. Riley will be offering a Meet the Teacher Open House on Thursday September 21. Please mark this date in your calendar.

Athletics Updates:

Cross Country

There will be a meeting in room 3 (Mrs. Bosselle’s room) Thursday at lunch time for all students wishing to join the cross country team. All students who sign up can be on the team. More information about practices and our cross country meets will be available at the meeting. Please ensure you have signed the mandatory athletics form.

 

 

Soccer Tryout Information:

Girls and Boys Soccer tryouts will be held on Wednesday September 6th from 2:45 to 3:45. Students are to meet Mr. Fernandes and Mr. Haseltine and Mrs. Sproxton on the back field. Those trying out should come with proper footwear. Cleats are recommended. Shin pads are a requirement.

• Please ensure the pink Tryout Authorization Form is signed by parents/guardians and handed into the PE team before the date of the first tryout. 

Basketball Tryout Information:

Student basketball meeting Wednesday September 6^th during the second half of lunch in the main gym. 

• Boys basketball tryouts on Monday September 11^th and Wednesday September 13^th 2:45-4:00pm
• Girls basketball tryouts on Tuesday September 12^th and Thursday September 14^th 2:45-4:00pm 
• Please ensure the pink Tryout Authorization Form is signed by parents/guardians and handed into the PE team before the date of the first tryout.
