Parent Council Needs YOU
HELP NEEDED!!
School Council
At a School Council Meeting, parents/ guardians and sometimes community members, gather to discuss the state of the nation at Thomas B Riley. Parents/ guardians organize and execute each meeting and take minutes. Agenda items are added for each meeting to discuss important school issues and to generally discuss the immediate learning needs of TBR students. The School Council discussion is a regular, timely way to share perspectives on current learning and to cultivate new initiatives and volunteer opportunities to improve each student’s daily experience in the school. At each School Council meeting, Admin reports current learning successes and share some immediate challenges to learning. This information is a wonderful way to stay directly connected with the school administration team and to ask questions about anything related to the School Development Plan or any program of studies questions.
The School Council meeting is also a place that we typically organize parent volunteers and discuss larger, school-wide projects and initiatives. At School Council, we organize and partner to improve the learning for all students. We have some lofty plans that will require your help to get off the ground. With your support and volunteerism, we can make some significant improvements to the school that will impact learning this school-year and for many, many years to come.
We still need to fill all positions for the School Council. If you have experience with School Council, we truly welcome you to join us. If you have never taken a role on a School Council, we truly welcome you to join us 😊.
Parent Association
The Parent Association is a separate, and equally important organization that exclusively handles the fundraising for T.B Riley. All fundraising decisions and spending decisions are done through this body of parents/ guardians. The Parent Association is looking for members to fill-out the need roles. We have money that can’t be spent without the involvement of a collective voice. If you are interested in joining the Parent Association or in simply attending the meeting to get a pulse on what is being funded at the school, please feel free to join the meeting and introduce yourselves. The Parent Association meeting typically follows the School Council meeting, although its frequency may not be as high as the School Council. More information in meeting frequency will be discussed at the AGM.
The Thomas B Riley Parent Association over sees many fundraising projects at the school and makes decisions on where those fundraised dollars are allocated based on administration’s funding requests. The goal of the Board is to ensure fundraised dollars are allocated in a fair and equitable way. We make every effort to balance the funding given to the different curricular areas that are supported and ensure it will benefit as many students as possible.
Please join us for our next meeting MAY 9th @ 6:30 in the Learning Commons at Thomas B Riley. (Teams Link will also be sent out closer to the date)
