Dear Thomas B. Riley Families,
Options for Next Year
There is a change to our process for CTF courses next school year. We will be moving to a CTF Wheel where all students will cycle through between 4 and 8 CTF courses in a school year depending on whether they attend our TLC or Regular Program. Because they will have a chance to cycle through all options classes, there will be no need to complete a choice survey as we did last year.
The only piece of information we need to know from you is if your child is attending the Regular Program at TBR next year, please let us know by emailing Mrs. Austin directly at taaustin@cbe.ab.ca if you would like for them to take band.
Welcome to Mrs. Schamehorn in Grade 7 Math/Science
Mrs. McIntyre is currently on medical leave. Ms. Schamehorn will be taking over in her position until Mrs. McIntyre’s return which will be near the end of June. Ms. Shamehorn brings with her experience teaching both disciplines and will a valuable addition to our school.
Parent Presentation – Responding to Substance Use
It is common for youth to have many new experiences as they age, including trying out substances such as alcohol or cannabis. With their minds and bodies still developing, substance use may lead to or affect physical or mental health. It is important to talk openly about substance use with your child. This session, hosted at Robert Thirsk High School, on May 14th at 7pm will provide you with tools and resources to have meaningful conversations with the youth in your life. Members of Community Health Promotion Services with Alberta Health Services are providing this session as a first step in developing a community response to substance use. To help us prepare the space for everyone interested, please RSVP.
Spirit Day – Hats On! For Mental Health Day on Wednesday May 8, 2024
Students are invited to wear a hat to school in support of Hats On! For Mental Health Day. The office will be accepting donations to The Children’s Cottage as well. Please have students bring a small donation for this cause. TLC may wear casual this day only if they are participating in the event.
