Open House for TBR Students and Families – Meet the Teacher
Thomas B. Riley School will be holding an in-person Open House for Meet the Teacher night on Thursday September 26, 2024 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the school.
Grade team presentation for Grades 7, 8, and 9 will begin at 5:00pm. Other presentations from CTF teams and Phys. Ed will be held throughout the evening as well. See schedule below for specific presentation times and locations.
This is a “come and go” style open house where you can pop into the various presentations throughout the evening and stay to ask questions or speak to the teachers in between each time slot.
Schedule for the Evening:
5:00pm, 6:00pm - Grade Team Presentations (repeat presentation)
Location: Learning Commons (Grade 7)
Location: Room 17 – Upstairs (Grade 8)
Location: Room 7 - Downstairs (Grade 9)
5:30pm – CTF/Complementary Courses Presentation (Cafeteria)
6:30pm – Phys. Ed Presentation (Main gym)
6:00pm-7:00pm – CTF teachers in the following space for a tour:
- Mr. Irwin (Band Room)
- Ms. Yeung, Ms. Roefs, and Ms. Arko (Art Room – Rm 10)
- Mr. Vlielander (Construction Room)
- Ms. Prasad (Foods Room)
ALP/PLP Program Open House Information
Students who are new to our Paced Learning Program (PLP) and Adapted Learning Program (ALP) are invited to book an individual conference with Ms. Bonnie and Ms. Sarah between 5:00pm-6:15pm. Please RSVP to your child’s teacher to book a time if you are new to the program. If your child attends our PLP or ALP program and they are a returning student, families and students are invited to participate in the larger open house presentations up until 6:15pm and then Rooms 5 and 6 will be open for a drop-in visit and touch-base with the teacher between 6:15pm and 7:00pm.
Terry Fox Run – Thursday September 26, 2024 at 12:00pm
Our Annual Terry Fox run is held on Thursday, September 26 directly following lunch. Please ensure students come to school in comfortable clothes are ready to run/walk in honor of Terry Fox and cancer awareness. Our school is also collecting Toonies for Terry! Please bring in toonies any time this week in support of Cancer Research to the main office.
Terry Fox Day (Thursday) - This is a casual day for all TLC students. No uniform is required.
In addition, we will be holding our first pep rally to kick of this event to celebrate the start of our athletics season. Following this pep rally, students will participate in the run.
Orange Shirt Day – Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024
Students are invited to wear orange shirts on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024 in honour of Orange Shirt Day. You can read more about Orange Shirt Day here.
Orange Shirt Day (Tuesday) - Students in TLC are welcome to wear an Orange shirt over their regular TLC uniform.
Orange Shirt Day 2024 is Monday, September 30 however, we will be honouring this day on Tuesday, Oct. 1st, 2024 as we have the Terry Fox Run on Sept. 26th.
Students will be engaging in learning experiences in their Humanities classes on October 1st throughout the day in recognition of this day.
No School – Friday, September 27, 2024 or Monday September 30, 2024
This Friday there is no school as this is a Professional Learning day for all school staff. Monday, September 30, 2024 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. There is no school for students or staff.
Updating Demographic Information – deadline extended. Please update!
You will have received an email from CBE regarding updating your child’s demographic information in Powerschool. These forms used to be completed via paper copies and now are required to be completed annually online. All parents must review, complete or update their child’s forms through Powerschool by clicking on the School Engage tab.
