Term 2 Begins this Week
Term 2 begins next week on Wednesday October 30, 2024. The change is only for CTF classes. Students will receive updated schedules on Tuesday so they are prepared for the following day.
Teachers will finalize assessment data for Term 1 and it will appear on the January report card.
As a reminder, our terms are rotating this year so students in the regular program receive all 8 courses once in the school year, two per term. Students in TLC have 4 of the 8 available courses and these are chosen according to the availability in our timetable. Because of this ability to rotate through all available courses, there is no option to choose or change CTF courses. They will participate in all courses available to them at one point in the year.
In addition, fees were assigned at the beginning of the year for all CTF courses they will participate in this school year. You will not have additional fees due to CTF courses in upcoming terms.
Food in Classrooms
We are asking that all students eat snacks during the designated nutrition break in the hallways and eat their lunches during the designated lunch hour. Students are also welcome to attend our breakfast club in the cafeteria first thing in the morning to begin their day at 7:45am.
Effective immediately, food is no longer permissible in classrooms. There has been an insurmountable amount of garbage left in classrooms and it is creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for our entire school community. It is not respectful to our caretakers, our fellow students or our teachers to continuously monitor and manage this and the problems are only getting worse despite multiple warnings for many classrooms. Water is permitted in a non-squirting water bottle. All sticky drinks should stay out of the school or closed in their locker. Thank you for reinforcing this message at home. This will help us to keep our classrooms clean and free from further distraction from learning.
Elder Visit on Monday
We will be holding grade team assemblies for all students on Monday, October 28, 2024 at various times throughout the day to meet with Elder Saa’kokoto. We look forward to his visit and opportunity to share his knowledge and teachings with us during this time.
Halloween Activities
Students are welcome to wear costumes to school on Thursday, October 31, 2024 if they choose. TLC students are invited to wear casual on this day as well.
If students are wearing costumes, the following rules are in place:
- No gory, bloody, or violent costumes
- No weapons or accessories that could be used as a weapon
- No masks or face coverings
- Nothing that obstructs the view or identity or face of the student.
Picking Up Older Siblings
We have received complaints from our feeder schools about older students picking up younger students after school. Our school dismisses at 2:30pm and students are not permitted to remain in our school after this time unless they are part of a club or an athletics activity taking place.
Students waiting to pick up younger siblings at neighboring schools must arrange to go somewhere in between or wait outside and off school property. Students may not ask our elementary schools to wait inside their building or to use the bathroom. This is very disruptive to the learning environment at their school and is becoming a security and safety concern. Thank you for working out a plan with our older students for what to do in between these times.
Library
Our school library is once again open and ready to be up and running! If students wish to sign out books they are asked to come down between 8:15am and 12:00pm
