Dear Thomas B. Riley Families,
You might be wondering why you are receiving this message on a Friday instead of a Monday! We received some valuable feedback from our parent community that it would be helpful for you to receive this message on Friday so you have the full scope of the week ahead prior to the weekend to help you plan your own week of activities. So you can expect a Friday message rather than one on Mondays moving forward. Please let us know how this is working for you.
No School Monday
Monday is Thanksgiving Day and is a holiday. There is no school for students or staff.
IPPs – Going Home Today
Students on an Individual Program Plan will have their IPPs sent home today in a sealed envelope. Please sign and return no later than October 18, 2024. If you have further questions or concerns, or would like to provide additional input please contact your child’s teacher directly.
Constable Presentation – Tuesday October 15
Constable Boychuk, our school resource officer, and Constable Dewar will be giving a presentation to all students on Tuesday, October 15 at 10am. This presentation includes topics such as gangs and gang activity and will be a valuable opportunity to connect with students to be aware of the behaviour around them and how they may be vulnerable to gang recruitment.

Spectator Reminders
A friendly reminder that all students are returning as spectators for the game with a parent or adult must go home in between the end of the day 2:30pm and game start. There is no supervisor provided at the school and we are not responsible for students outside of our school building at this time. Students are not able to wait in the office or in the school under any circumstances and will be asked to leave the building at 2:30pm.
The same rule applies for players if their coaches have not directly told them they are supervising them in between. Players must also leave at 2:30pm and return at 4:00pm or 4:15pm.
In addition, a reminder that students, parents, coaches and community members are bound by their individual responsibilities under the Education Act which applies both inside and outside of school hours if it affects school procedures. All sporting events, regardless of the location of play, are considered an extension of our school property for the duration of the sporting event. Parents, spectators and players are under the authority of the supervising administration of the home and away games. Failure to comply with the expectations of safety and respectful communication will be asked to leave and may receive a ban from attending future games.
