Dear Thomas B. Riley Families,

Student Absences vs. Lates

We have attendance calls that go out to parents/guardians twice in a day, once in the morning and once after lunch. If you receive an attendance call or alert from the school it means that either your child is still absent from school or they have not yet made it into class.

We have had an increase in the amount of students who are signing in at the office late in the morning or after lunch and not actually going to class. In this case, they will remain as absent on their attendance even if they are at school. Once they make it to class, their teacher will change their attendance to late and make a note of the time.

We really appreciate your support in following up with your child if you are receiving absence calls when you believe they should be at school. It is the responsibility of your child to ensure they make it to class on time for each period of the day or their overall attendance rate will be impacted. Only their teacher can verify whether they made it to class and not the front office. Please follow up directly with your child and then your child’s teacher if you believe there is a discrepancy.

School Council Meeting Date Change

Due to Basketball Semi-Finals hosted at TBR next Wednesday we will need to move our School Council Meeting date in November. The new date will be Wednesday November 27, 2024 @6pm in our school learning commons. We hope you can join us!

Save the Date - Winter Band Concert December 5, 2024

Thomas B. Riley is proud to present our first concert this year. It will take place Thursday December 5, 5:30pm at Thomas B. Riley School in the main gym. Doors will open for parents at approximately 5:15pm. The concert will last for approximately 1 hour with no intermission. This will be a great chance to see your children perform with an evening full of music. Seating will be on a first come bases as there is no assigned seating. We ask that parents remain in the gym for the entire performance to minimize interruption and respect all performers.

Attendance at this concert is mandatory for all TLC students and part of the expectations of their commitment to the TLC program. If your child is not able to attend due to unavoidable circumstances please email Mr. Irwin at wlirwin@cbe.ab.ca explain their absence.
