Dear TB Riley Families,
A Reminder about Respectful Communication
As we finish up this school year, our staff continue to work very hard every day to teach the amazing humans you are raising. We look forward to continuing to partner with you as parent/guardians and welcome respectful dialogue about your child’s education. We ask that you are mindful that our staff is made up of mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, partners, sisters, brothers, grandparents, and friends.
We ask that all staff are treated with dignity and respect in every form of communication, whether in person, over the phone, or via email. We have a common goal to ensure your child has a successful conclusion to this school year and it’s important to remember we are all on the same team. Thank you for your commitment to this and for contributing to a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful working and learning environment for all.
Access to the School for Parents/Guardians and Guests
We have had to update some of our security measures at the school to ensure the safety and security of our staff and students.
Meetings with School Staff and Administration: Effective immediately, all parents, guardians and guests will be required to book an appointment through the main office prior to accessing the school if they wish to discuss any matters related to students at the school or school matters. We will work to ensure all matters are managed in a timely manner. School staff are not able to accept drop-in appointments. If the matter is urgent please call the main office and we will be happy to assist you. You may also book an appointment via email at thomasbriley@cbe.ab.ca or directly to the email of the person you wish to speak with. We will do our best to respond within 24 hours.
Picking Up or Dropping Off Students or Items: If you are picking up or dropping off students, we ask that you ring the front bell and wait for your child outside or in your car. We will alert your child that you are waiting for them and sign them out in the main office. If you need to drop off an item for your child, please ring the front bell and we will retrieve it from you at the main door.
School Discipline Follow Up: For any matters related to school discipline, you will receive a phone call directly from one of our administrative team members letting you know about the nature of the incident. If a child is required to be picked up from the school, the same procedures will apply as outlined above for picking up students from the school. A follow up meeting will be arranged, as required, or at your request, to discuss any disciplinary matters in greater detail.
We thank you in advance for your attention to these changes and recognize that this may cause some inconvenience for families. Our first priority is to ensure that all school staff and students remain in a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe environment.
Band Concert
Thomas B. Riley is proud to present our year end concert. It will take place Thursday May 22, 5:30pm at Thomas B. Riley School in the main gym. Doors will open for parents at approximately 5:15pm. The concert will last for approximately 1 hour with no intermission.
Attendance at this concert is mandatory for all TLC students and part of the expectations of their commitment to the TLC program. If your child is not able to attend due to unavoidable circumstances please email Mr. Irwin at wlirwin@cbe.ab.ca explain their absence.
Uniform will be formal TLC uniform. There will be no access to lockers – students must arrive in their uniform including polished black shoes. Students should arrive at school between 5:00pm to 5:20pm. Students will have time to move their instruments to their designated areas in the last block of the day. Students may take their instruments home after school but must bring them back for the concert. When students arrive at the school they should go directly to their designated area.
We ask that all parents remain in the gym for the entirety of the school performance from 5:30pm-6:30pm. You will not be able to pick up your child early in between performances. Thank you for your cooperation.
