Dear Thomas B. Riley families,
Food Delivery Orders are not Permitted
All students are invited to either bring a packed lunch to consume during the lunch hour within the school or are invited to go off campus to eat food. Food deliveries are not permitted to be delivered to the school. With 470 students in the school, this creates additional work for our front office staff to manage at a very busy time of our school day. It also poses a safety risk as we have unknown drivers attempting to access our building. In addition, students are coming late to class because they are often waiting for their late delivery orders. We would appreciate if you can have a follow up conversation with your child about this.
We ask that you please do not send orders for them on their behalf for any reason. If this does occur, the office will hold all food coming in until the end of the day and there will be a phone call home. Students have heard this same message throughout our morning announcements this week.
Students must be picked up on time
The end of our school day is 2:30pm. All students must arrange for transportation home at this time by foot, by bus, or by pick up. The school office is closed at 2:45pm and there is no school staff available to watch your child in the office if you are late to pick them up, regardless of the reason. It is your responsibility as a parent/guardian to make alternate arrangements if you will be late. We appreciate your cooperation and consideration in this matter.
PD Day Friday – No School
There is no school for students on Friday, February 28, 2025. This is a professional learning day for all staff and our office will be closed.
Perogy Pick Up – Wednesday, February 26, 2026
If you ordered Perogies for our school fundraiser, pick up will be on Wednesday, February 26th from 2:15pm-3:00pm in the Foothills United Church parking lot adjacent to the school. If you are not able to pick up during this window of time, please make arrangements for someone to pick up for you. The school is not able to store any orders that are not picked up on this day.
Alberta International Band Festival – Grade 9 – February 24, 2025
All Grade 9 band students will attend the band festival on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The bus will be leaving at 10:00am and returning around 2:00pm. Attendance is mandatory as part of the band program.
If your child is unable to attend due to unavoidable reasons they must remain at home. There is no alternative activities at the school in lieu of the field trip. Fees will be charged as part of the band program if students are choosing not to attend.
CUPE Strike Action – Possible Impact to Athletics and After School Activities
As you have likely read in the news lately, CUPE is positioned to go on strike beginning as early as Monday. If this moves forward, effective immediately the following plan is in order in all CBE schools.
- Volleyball will continue, however games must be finished by 6pm and every person must fully exit the school by 6:30pm. All students must be picked up by 6pm, with no exceptions or they may not be able to play in the next game.
- There will be no student spectators while the strike is in place. Typically we allow student spectators with a parent/guardian or a trusted adult. Only parents driving students may stay to watch the game. This is a CBE directive.
- No food or drink is permitted in the gym during volleyball. Washrooms are for athletes and coaches only and are not open for public use.
- Drama rehearsals, Band rehearsals, and Model UN may continue as after school activities and must end promptly at 3:45pm. Students must be picked up at this time and no later.
