Dear Thomas B. Riley Families,
Welcome to Grade 5 Students at TBR
We are thrilled to host students from Edgemont School this week after they were displaced from their school due to a flood. They are housed in empty classrooms until their building is repaired. There will be minimal disruption to our students. We thank our students and school community in advance for their open welcome to these students while they are at our school.
NEW swag at TBR!!
We are excited to offer the opportunity to purchase school swag with our updated logo. We now have two different styles of hats and also toques! All styles of hats are $25 and are available on a first come, first served basis starting tomorrow!
Students are welcome to either bring $25 in cash, or parents can call and have this fee added to their powerschool account. There are limited quantities available for all styles.
In addition, we continue to have new hoodies available for purchase as well in expanded sizes.
Gift Card Drive
In lieu of collecting specific items for Holiday Hampers this year, we are rolling out a gift card drive to support families in need in our school community. Gift cards provide the flexibility to purchase items such as formula and diapers, holiday gifts, winter clothing, and other basic needs such as food items.
If you would like to contribute to this worthwhile cause, each grade team is responsible for collecting specific gift cards:
Grade 7: Superstore Grade 8: Safeway Grade 9: Wal-Mart
Please try to keep the denominations to $20, $25 or $50 so we have flexibility to divide to families in need. You are welcome to purchase multiple cards in these denominations. Your support is so appreciated.
Our goal is $2000 per grade for each store. The grade team who collects the most value in gift cards will receive either an additional intramural lunch period OR a movie afternoon (homeroom choice).
We will collect gift cards beginning Monday until December 13.
Prayer at School
There are religious accommodations that can be made during the school day if a student requires a private space to pray. We recognize that the windows of time to pray can fluctuate throughout the school year.
If it is necessary for students to pray outside of the lunch hour during instructional time, please email Mrs. Austin directly at taaustin@cbe.ca with your child’s first and last name stating your request for this accommodation. We will keep a list of students and ensure students have a common time to pray in a quiet, clean space during the appropriate window of time.
Students are required to demonstrate respectful behavior at all times and return to class directly following prayers to minimize interruption in their learning.
